Three Metrics To View Under Google Analytics Audience

As we've covered before, Google Analytics is a great tool to break down and analyze user traffic, bounce rate, user behavior, and much more. For today's post, I wanted to concentrate on three different metrics you can use through Google Analytics to better understand your audience.

Audience Overview

The most basic report you can obtain from Google Analytics Audience Report is the "audience overview." This report will give you a quick peek of the total number of users, new users, number of sessions, sessions per user, pageviews, pages viewed per session, average session duration, bounce rate, languages used, countries and cities viewed, as well as system information such as browser and service provider. You can expand any of the individual smaller reports to gain a more comprehensive understanding of each.

For this post, we'll go over how to access the full location report, specifically cities, from the overview page as well as how to get to it from the sidebar.

Location
To access the full cities report from the audience overview page, select "City" from the demographics subcategory.

Once you have selected "City," click on "view full report."

This will take you to the full Location Report and automatically filter by cities.

This report gives you a visual, a map, so you are able to geographically locate the cities in which your webpage has been viewed, as well as a list of cities with the total number of users, sessions, bounce rate, average session duration, and more for each city.

To access this report from the sidebar, find the "Geo" subcategory under Audience. Expand "Geo" and select "Location."

Engagement
You can also further dissect user engagement by analyzing the Engagement Report. To access this report, find the "Behavior" subcategory under Audience. Select "Engagement."

The engagement report will provide you with the number of sessions and pageviews, as well as session duration broken down into subcategories.

Of course, there are many more uses of the Audience Report under Google Analytics and as the semester goes on, we'll keep on exploring more of it.
