The 3 C's of Content Creation: Curation, Creation, and Collaboration

When creating a blog, there are 3 different types of content one can create: curation, creation, and collaboration. In this blog, we'll explore what these options entail.

Curation
According to Beth's Blog, content curation refers to "the process of sorting through the vast amounts of content on the web and presenting it in a meaningful and organized way around a specific theme ... Content curation is not about collecting links or being an information pack rat, it is more about putting them into a context with organization, annotation, and presentation." In other words, content curation is the searching and sorting through the web to find other blogs, articles, and websites related to a specific topic or theme. If you are curating content, you put all of these resources together in an organized manner and comment on it. A perfect example of curating content is this blog. I pull information from different sources on a specific theme, organize it into a blog post, and share it with my network.
Creation
Content creation is perhaps the most known type of content creation. Creating original content usually rakes more time, but it has been shown to have the highest impact on search engine optimization (Todd Kelsey). Content creation is not just a blog post or the information found on a website. Original content can be in the form of a video, eBook, Tweet, infographic, and advertisement. The greatest benefit of creating your own content is that you are able to provide consumers/readers with all the information they need in one place. This not only gives them a reason to stay longer on your site but as professor Kelly stated in his book, it also gives them a reason to come back.

Collaboration
Content collaboration occurs when two or more people join forces to create content that can combine each other's areas of expertise onto one article, video, graphic, etc. According to Polycom, content collaboration offers many benefits. From boosting productivity and fostering innovation, to faster adaption to changing market conditions, content collaboration can be the answer to many looking for a way to reduce costs and deliver new and engaging content.
